In the context of a new partnership instrument supporting cooperation between India and European Union on ICT standardisation, first cooperation workshop was organised on 19th May 2015 in New Delhi.

Workshop participants included members of Telecommunications Standards Development Society, India (TSDSI), including Director General Dr. Asok Chatterjee, a delegation of representatives of the Central Statistics Office (CSO) of India led by Director General Sh. Ashish Kumar, as well as representatives of the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) and the Delegation of the European Union to India.

An important milestone achieved from the workshop is the identification of three priority topics for India-EU collaboration by TSDSI members for the horizon of next 4 years: 5G, Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communications for Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), and Network Function Virtualization/Software Defined Networking (NFV/SDN). For the  statistical part of the project (cooperation between CSO and Eurostat) it was agreed to focus on the use of the standard SDMX for national accounts.

The workshop participants also deliberated on the possible activities to be carried through this collaboration & partnership instrument around these identified topics. It was also agreed that the technical leadership of TSDSI of these identified topics would engage within their working groups to elaborate in detail and identify list of activities shall be carried out during the implementation phase of this cooperation project.

A conference on cooperation between India and the EU on ICT standardisation is planned for 5th of November, which will focus on an in-depth discussion of these identified topics. It will be held in cooperation with and build upon ETSI’s 2nd Indo-European dialogue on ICT standards & Emerging Technologies scheduled for November 4th in New Delhi in the framework of its Project SESEI (Seconded European Standardization Expert for India), which will cover all relevant ICT standards.”

Announcement of Project website and it’s going live was also made during the workshop.
