oneM2M developers tutorial for IoT Startups and Companies
Bengaluru, April 26 2019: a two-day oneM2M developers tutorial targeted at IoT startups and companies took place in Hotel Lalit Ashok, Bengaluru in cooperation with C-DOT, TSDSI, ETSI in the context of the India EU ICT Standards Collaboration Project.
Recently, Telecom Engineering Centre (TEC) has invited public comments in process of oneM2M to be a national standard for India. C-DOT, a Government of India, R&D organization has been pioneering the technology in India while making significant contributions from India to this global standard and is best positioned to share the know-how with Indian SMEs and Companies. Hence, the activity was supported with cooperation of experts from EU and India to build capacity and enable an ecosystem that leverages benefits of standardisation.
Forty five organisations from seven states of India were shortlisted based on their programming skills and relevance of their line of work. The activity was provided free of charge to the selected organisations.
Vipin Tyagi, Executive Director of C-DOT mentioned during his inaugural address, “With the fast-changing world of computation and learning and real time actions getting integrated into new work flows, it is generating an enormous possibility for innovation.
However, it is very important that the Machine to Machine solutions are interoperable, scalable, available, manageable, secure and open. In this context the standardization of one M2M need to be recognized as an essential need for IOT/M2M based solutions. There is a need for adoption of these standards at national and international level. In this regard collaboration across the SDOs plays and important role.”
Benoit Sauveroche, First Counsellor at EU Delegation to India stated that, “The Delegation of the European Union is delighted to bring its support to this event. It materialises the wish expressed by the leaders of India and the EU for intensified technical cooperation on standardisation for next generation technologies. The transfer of knowledge performed during these two days will enable participating startups to enhance the outreach of their innovations in the world of the internet of things.”
Pamela Kumar, DG TSDSI during the inaugural session stated that “TSDSI is a Partner of the oneM2M project and has been mobilizing the awareness in India through workshops, tutorials, webinars, hackathons etc. We have transposed the oneM2M release2 and submitted to the Ministry of Communications to approve as National Standards. This has been driven by the strong need for a Standards driven approach for the SMART CITIES MISSION in India. We are experiencing a sudden uptake amongst Indian companies to participate in the development of oneM2M standards to ensure that India specific requirements and Indian innovations are incorporated in the standards. The persistence and leadership of C-DOT has been the key driving factor in the progress made so far.”
Xavier Piednoir from ETSI stated that, “As a founding member of the oneM2M partnership project and a strong believer in collaboration at a global scale, ETSI is proud to be part of this event and support TSDSI and our common member C-DOT. The event gathers players from the vibrant ecosystem of IoT. Our efforts with oneM2M aim at bringing interoperability for IoT-enabled environments.
Smart Cities in India are ideal candidates to fully leverage the benefits of a standards-based approach, with oneM2M making their rollouts future-proof, open in terms of sourcing of technology providers, and interoperable not only across India but also with partner cities worldwide.”
Laurent Velez commented on the developments, “Thanks to C-DOT and the EU-India ICT project to organize such an event. It was a great opportunity to meet an important developer community here in Bangalore and share experience on IoT deployments, and how a standardized solution like oneM2M can help their business. oneM2M standard has been thought to simplify the life of the application developers by providing a service layer that abstract and hide the complexity of the different forms of interworking or the different protocols used in IoT. It also allows to exchange data from different domains. So the developers can focus on the data and really create added-value applications that aim at developing new business for the industry. I am convinced that the standards will help Internet of Things to solve the major challenges of the world and finally to provide a better life for the citizens.”
oneM2M is a global partnership project constituted by 8 of the world’s leading ICT standards development organizations, notably: ARIB (Japan), ATIS (United States), CCSA (China), ETSI (Europe), TIA (USA), TSDSI (India), TTA (Korea) and TTC (Japan). The goal of the organization is to create a global technical standard for interoperability concerning the architecture, API specifications, security solutions and interoperability for IoT technologies.
The produced standardized specifications enables an ecosystem to support a wide range of applications and services such as smart cities, smart grid, connected car, home automation, public safety, and health.
oneM2M standardized technology is removing fragmentation in the IoT world. Because it is independent of the connectivity- or protocol technology that is used for transport, it is designed to be a long term solution for IoT deployment.
